Air conditioning installers in Australian cities

Choose a city to find who supplies and installs split systems and ducted air conditioning in homes. Each city has one list, and ducted work has no pages of its own: the Ducted button inside the list keeps only the installers that show ducted jobs. Appliance stores that sell units without fitting them are not included.

Questions before you get quotes

What licence does an air conditioning installer need?

Anyone who handles refrigerant must hold a refrigerant handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council, known as ARCtick, and the company needs a refrigerant trading authorisation. You can check a licence on the ARCtick website. The electrical connection also needs someone licensed for that work in your state.

Split system or ducted?

A split system heats or cools one room and goes in quickly. A ducted system serves the whole house from one unit in the roof space or under the floor, with zones you switch on and off, and needs room for the ductwork. Ask the installer to size it room by room or zone by zone from a heat load calculation, not from the floor area alone.

Does air conditioning work well with solar panels?

A reverse-cycle system draws the most power on hot afternoons, while panels are still producing, so running it then uses more of your own solar. Many systems can run on a timer or an app. Compare the energy rating labels of the models you are offered, since the running cost lasts much longer than the install.

Are there discounts on reverse-cycle air conditioning?

Some states offer them, for example through Victorian Energy Upgrades, and they usually require an accredited provider and an eligible product. Conditions and amounts change, so read the program’s current terms before you sign anything.
