About SolarTradie
Why SolarTradie sorts Australian solar, battery, hot water and air conditioning installers and electricians by trade, and what it does not do.
Australia has one of the highest rates of rooftop solar in the world, and the market around it is crowded. Panels, batteries, heat pumps and air conditioners are sold at the door, over the phone and through online ads, and some companies close before the warranties they offered run out. SolarTradie sorts the companies that install these systems by trade and by city, so you can see who does what before you ask anyone for a quote.
What the lists cover
There are five trades: solar installers, battery installers, heat pump and solar hot water installers, air conditioning installers, and electricians who work in homes. Each city has one list per trade. Inside the solar list, buttons narrow it to companies that take on commercial systems or EV chargers, and the air conditioning list has a button for ducted systems. Every company has its own page with the work it takes on, where it is based and its opening hours.
Where we cover
The lists cover the state and territory capitals and regional centres such as Townsville, Toowoomba, Newcastle, Geelong and Ballarat, and they appear on the site a few at a time. Conditions differ a lot across that map. Panel mounting in parts of north Queensland has to suit cyclone-rated wind loads, heating matters more than cooling in Hobart or Ballarat, and each network company sets its own export limits.
What we do not do
We are not an installer, a solar retailer, an electricity retailer or a regulator. We do not design systems, inspect roofs or switchboards, write quotes or book installs, and we cannot tell you what size system suits your home, whether a price is fair or whether you qualify for a rebate. We do not check each company’s accreditation, licences or insurance ourselves. The page on how we select explains how you can do it. Whatever you sign, you sign with the company.
How the site is paid for
Reading the site costs nothing. Its costs are covered by companies that buy a Pro page or a Top place once they are already on a list, and each of those carries a label. There is no advertising on the site.
